Fate Of Gods

(2D platforming game, Unreal Engine 4, student project, 2019/20)

Fate of Gods is a 2D platformer with an emphasis on speed and acceleration. Protagonist Noatak (inspired by the Aztec god Xolotl) flees from his brother Sotros who wants to sacrifice him to create a new sun.

The project was realized at Media University Stuttgart over the course of two semesters (one was only pre-production). The game was made in Unreal Engine 4.

My responsibilities:

Writing

  • Creating a narrative based on aztec mythology and adapting it for a platforming game
  • Writing animated sequences to convey the story and dynamic voicelines to comment on the gameplay

Level Design

  • Collaborating on the design philosophy and the actual gameplay
  • Building extensive levels with an emphasis on flow and acceleration while introducing evolving variations of gameplay using a limited set of assets and movement mechanics

Software:

  • Overleaf (writing the game design document)
  • Unreal Engine 4 (level design, level dressing, testing and refinement)
  • Perforce (versioning and data management)
